About the Kumari Jayawardena Collection
The Kumari Jayawardena Feminist Collection is a repository of the published writings of Kumari Jayawardena, one of the globally renowned scholars that Sri Lanka has produced and one of the foremothers of the feminist movement in South Asia. Her academic and political work has inspired generations of researchers and activists over the last five decades. This archive seeks to pay tribute to the continued salience of her work and contributions while making it easily accessible to a new generation of scholars and activists. The collection consists of over 200 published scholarly and activist writings, co-authored and collectively authored texts; and interviews and articles with and about her covering the period 1967 to 2017. It does not as yet include letters, diaries, papers, manuscripts, handwritten notes, etc. As more and more people engage with this platform, we hope that it will lead us to unknown or lost writing and records relating to Kumari, including ephemera, such as letters and correspondence with others thereby allowing us to expand the collection.
